The American Dream is most commonly defined as, "the widespread aspiration of Americans to live better then their parents did." In my opinon the American Dream is something that differs from person to person. One may see it as finding a stable job in order to provide for their family, while another may see it as purchasing that new hot rod in order to stay high class. In the novel Gatsby represents this dream through his determination. Gatsby is a very high class man that is considered by many as "Great". His success is seen through his assets, such as his house, friends, and great wealth. Although there are things he does not succed with, he always is trying his hardest to get there. I do not believe the American Dream has changed since Gatsby's time, but I do believe that the mindset of people has. We still see the American Dream as something we are living day to day, obviously some more then others. But I think through time the idea of competetion has been added to the American Dream. Now many see it as a new daily goal that you must strive for but it is still taught to be the aspiration of humans to better their lives.
